Hell-bent on quick economic growth, many Third World countries are tragically lax in their approach to industrial pollution. Toxic dumping in the cities and pesticide poisoning of the farmlands are the inevitable results of rampant industrialization. Kuala Lumpur’s high-rise apartment buildings and luxury hotels can’t disguise the fact that Malaysia is still a developing nation plagued by poverty and inequality. For Fatma, six, this tiny balcony is her private playground - and if she wants to stick her tongue out, she absolutely will.
