The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK
International Projects 2008-2009
Join the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK for the opportunity of a lifetime. The charity, which raises money for bowel cancer research in the UK, is organising three international projects to renovate remote schools in Brazil, South Africa and Ecuador. These 11 day trips for one person include flights, food and ground costs. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £4000 and pay a £350 registration fee. All proceeds go to cutting-edge bowel cancer research in the UK. Whilst on the project, the work will be physically demanding (although no specific building skills are necessary) and the accommodation is basic (camping), but it will be an extremely rewarding trip. The project work, local children, breathtaking landscape, food and local entertainment will provide memories that will last a lifetime. To make a real difference in a remote area of the world and help tackle bowel cancer, visit www.bobbymoorefundprojects.org

Malawi Dream
Malawi Dream is a Registered Charity run from a kitchen table. It addresses the issues of Health, Education and Sanitation on the island of Likoma on Lake Malawi. Likoma has a population of 10,000 people in 12 villages. There are no shops on the island, provisions are delivered by steam ferry twice a week. To date Malawi Dream has provided at Primary School level electricity for classrooms, educational equipment and materials, school uniforms and nutritional programmes. The first Infants School/ Child Care Centre has been built and will be opened in December 2007, with all the above facilities. Secondary Scholarships are awarded and pupils provided with school uniforms and materials. Malaria is a killer disease and the victims are normally the under 5's. Malawi Dream is currently installing long term insecticide mosquito nets and internally spraying the dwellings. It is hoped that the rate of malaria will be reduced by 70% if not eradicated. This would be a first in Africa as it is an island. Linked to this project is the provision of water pumps to avoid the malaria risks caused by stagnant water. In 2008 Malawi Dream will award the first 4 year Degree in Nursing Scholarship.
There are no orphanages on the island through local choice. The HIV orphans are placed in extended families. Malawi Dream helps these families by the planting of vegetable patches and the provision of goats and pens. The local villagers identify their needs and donate the labour, the projects are successful because of the ownership.

Hope and Homes for Children
Hope and Homes for Children's mission is to give hope to the poorest children in the world - those who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable - by enabling them to grow up within the love of a family and the security of a home, so they can fulfil their potential.
Hope and Homes for Children work in Africa and in Central and Eastern Europe. In Africa they provide a vital lifeline for families at risk of breakdown due to the pressures of poverty, disease or conflict, and in Central and Eastern Europe they tackle child abandonment, closing down institutions and moving children into family-based care .
